Dr Edward LEUNG graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, The University of Hong Kong in 1979. He actively promotes the development of geriatric medicine and gerontology in Hong Kong. He has served as a member of the Hong Kong Geriatrics Society, the President of the Hong Kong Association of Gerontology, and the President of The Hong Kong Continence Society etc. After retiring from the Hospital Authority, Dr. Leung took over as Director of the Generiatric Medicine Centre (Healthy Ageing) of Hong Kong Sanatorium and Hospital, pioneering the provision of elderly care in private medical institutions. He founded the Hong Kong Institute of Gerontology in 2001 and launched the Residential Aged Care Accreditation Scheme in 2005 to improve the quality of residential care homes. Since 2008, Dr. Leung has been researching and developing hospice care services for the elderly. As a result of Dr. Leung’s advocacy, the Hong Kong Association of Gerontology was awarded a three-year grant from the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust for the Hospice in Care program.
