Professor Angela Y. M. Leung is Professor, Associate Head (Research) of School of Nursing and Director of WHO Collaborating Centre for Community Health Services in the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. She was the recipient of The Excellent Health Promotion Project Award given by the Food and Health Bureau, Hong Kong Government (2021), awardee in the Hartford Geriatric Scholars Program in Johns Hopkins University (2014) and Distinguished Gerontological Nursing Educator by National Hartford Centre for Gerontological Nursing Excellence, USA (2018). She is an active researcher in health literacy and dementia caregiving, with a wide range of publications in international journals. She has a strong belief that technology can help people to understand their current health status and make the informed health decision. She is also dedicated to community-based health promotion initiatives. She serves as the Member of World Health Organization (WHO) Global Network on Long-term Care (GNLTC) and WHO Clinical Consortium on Healthy Ageing (CCHA). She advocates the implementation of WHO ICOPE model (doi: 10.1186/s12877-022-02980-1) and dementia literacy in Western Pacific Region (doi:10.1002/gps.5197) and conduct training in many countries like China, Singapore, Fiji, Cambodia, and the Philippines.
Professor Angela Leung has been at the forefront of smart aging research for a decade, leading a multidisciplinary team of postgraduate students, clinical practitioners, nurses, and engineers to develop innovative solutions for pressing health challenges in the aging population. Notable projects include the Diabetes Risk Score app (doi: 10.2196/10662), an electronic painting and peer support system (https://doi.org/10.3390/healthcare10050870), a gamified infection control training system for staff in residential care homes (https://2022.gies.hk/zh-hk/expo/exhibition-products/detail/1961.html), and companion social robots for older adults (doi: 10.3390/healthcare11010039). These projects not only generate new knowledge but also drive meaningful changes in practices and behaviors. Professor Leung has established an incubator hub for young researchers and cross-disciplinary innovators to develop ideas for advancing Gerontechnological care.
