Nurturing Professionals in Long-term Care
Abstract
With increased longevity and weakening of informal care, demand for long-term care (LTC) services, both residential and community care, will continue to surge in Hong Kong and other parts of the world. However, most cities are facing a manpower shortage for LTC, and this problem has become more acute under the pandemic. This session will explore innovative solutions to nurturing and empowering LTC professionals.

- Ms Ada CHENG
CEO, Australian Nursing Home Foundation
Ms Ada CHENG is the CEO of the Australian Nursing Home Foundation and has over30 years of experience in Aged Care Management and a proven track record instrategic planning and service development. Ada was on the Steering Committee of the National Ageing and Aged Care Strategy for People from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) Backgrounds and served on the CALD Aged Care Strategy Working Group. Currently, Ada serves on the Board of the Ethnic Communities Council of NSW and the Positive CALD Ageing Network of the Federation of Ethnic Communities Councils of Australia. Ada is a qualified Social Worker, holds a Master’s degree in Community Management, and is a graduate member (GAICD) of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

- Prof Jill MANTHORPE CBE

Professor Jill MANTHORPE CBE is Director of the NIHR Policy Research Unit on Health and Social Care Workforce and Associate Director of the NIHR School for Social Care Research. She is theme lead for social care and Executive Board member of the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration South London, chairs the NIHR Policy Research Programme committee, and is an NIHR Senior Investigator (Emeritus).
Professor Jill MANTHORPE CBE is Professor of Social Work at King's College London. Her particular research interests are in policy, workforce, care practice and ageing. She was a member of the first NICE Dementia Guidelines group and has served on two James Lind Alliance Priority Setting Partnerships (dementia and adult social work). She is also a member of the Alzheimer's Society Grant Panel.

Dr Carmen Ng is currently the General Manager (Elderly Services) of the Hong Kong Housing Society (HKHS), overseeing the elderly housing and related services to assist the elderly to age in place. Before joining HKHS, Dr Ng had been the Head of Consumer Education of the Consumer Council, Secretary-General of the Community Investment and Inclusion Fund of the Labour and Welfare Bureau, Executive Director of the HK Alzheimer’s Disease Association, and Chief Operating Officer of the Senior Citizen Home Safety Association, where she assisted in developing new service models to respond to the changing needs of the elderly and the society at large.
